Sister Cities Commission Updates

Our neighbor Anne Wortham attended the recent "Sister Cities" Commission meeting on October 1, 2013.

Her report is below:

A full agenda and no quorum and so a limited amount of issues covered, which included the following:
  • Discussion about the Commission's return on their investment in the September 20, 21 "Women, War & Peace" Conference sponsored by VCU Honors College.  The decision of attending members was there was not much, perhaps because of poor publicity resulting in poor attendance.
  • New program, VCU Globe, introduced:  "VCU Globe is a new living-learning program which prepares Virginia Commonwealth University students to live and work in a 21st-century global environment."
  • USCPFA (http://www.uscpfa.org/National Convention to be held in Richmond this month.  A scheduled for-pay event is a visit to St. John's for a reenactment should bring a crowd to our area.  Free on Saturday night is the screening of Chen Defu Documentary: Flying Tigers Made Lifelong Friends (Parts 3-4) about shadow puppetry.
  • Commission seeking applicants for membership.  Contact Alexander Rawles in the mayor's office for applications/questions:  Alexander.Rawles@Richmondgov.com
